The Headhaul Index (HAUL) calculates the difference between the Outbound Tender Volume Index (OTVI) and the Inbound Tender Volume Index (ITVI). The Headhaul Index will calculate the difference between the two indices, and therefore, the difference between outbound and inbound volume in markets.
Example: OTVI.ATL was 250 as of August 1. ITVI.ATL was 200 as of August 1. HAUL.ATL would be equal to OTVI.ATL (250) minus ITVI.ATL (200), HAUL.ATL = 50.
HAUL is also available in the tri-delta form in each market.

Anyone who is interested in freight movement patterns; shippers, brokers, fleet managers, executives of transportation companies, and owner operators
The Headhaul Index is a good indicator of capacity changes. For example, if the spread between OTVI and ITVI increases, it could indicate capacity may be decreasing. This is a good way to evaluate change in available capacity over time.
Example: A user wants to see the headhaul index for the Albuquerque market. They would type HAUL.ABQ
