Customized TRAC Rates Based on Length of Haul
SONAR now has the option in our key market area (KMA) TRAC rates API for users to enter load-specific miles! When you do, we will perform a mileage adjustment to the TRAC KMA rate and RPM fields.
What is the mileage adjustment?
Stated simply, an equipment-specific function is used to move the flat rate along a curve generated by our very experienced data science team using multiple years of TRAC contributor data. In the example below, our TRAC KMA flat rate would be $216 based on 27 miles. If your lane is actually 45 miles, the rate would be adjusted to $237. This ensures the rate you receive from our API response is in line with the mileage you provide.
Why should I use the mileage adjustment?
Not all loads travel from the center of the origin KMA to the center of the destination KMA. This is the mileage used to generate the rate without the mileage adjustment.
Lower-density lanes expand spatially to reach the 5/25 rule and include loads with a wider variance in length of haul. Length of haul is the single most important factor in determining the rate.
Shorter lengths of haul do not have the same linear relationship between rates and miles as longer lengths of haul. The adjustment increases the accuracy of the rate on shorter lengths of haul.
