Intermodal Contract Rates by Lane
The Intermodal Contract Rates can be used as a tool for assessing potential savings that can be realized by using rail\intermodal rather than truckload.
- Rates in the intermodal contract rate dataset (SONAR ticker: IMK) are produced weekly for 67 distinct origin-destination pairs.
- The rates reflect processed transactions in the domestic rail/intermodal segment (i.e., primarily for the movement of 53’ domestic containers).
- Rates include fuel surcharges, exclude all non-fuel accessorial charges and are for door-to-door movements.
The Technical Stuff : the lane must have at least 3 distinct shippers. Recent and close to the market centroid transactions have more weight and they must be within 100 miles of the origin and destination market centroid. On dates when there is insufficient data density to produce a rate for a particular lane, the most recent non-null rate will be carried forward.
