Accepted SONAR Truckload Volume Index (ASTVI, ASTVIV, ASTVIR)

WHAT IS IT?

The Accepted SONAR Truckload Volume Index, or ASTVI, measures accepted truckload tender volumes across the market. It is calculated using SONAR’s Truckload Volume Index and Truckload Rejection Index to estimate the portion of tendered freight that was accepted.

Calculated as (1 – STRI) × STVI.

Datasets are updated daily and are available at the national, regional, and market levels.

Ticker variations include:

  • ASTVI: Accepted SONAR Truckload Volume Index
    • ASTVIV: Van
    • ASTVIR: Reefer
  • Weekly Change
    • ASTVIW: Total accepted volume weekly change
    • ASTVIWV: Van accepted volume weekly change
    • ASTVIWR: Reefer accepted volume weekly change
  • Monthly Change
    • ASTVIM: Total accepted volume monthly change
    • ASTVIMV: Van accepted volume monthly change
    • ASTVIMR: Reefer accepted volume monthly change
  • Yearly Change
    • ASTVIY: Total accepted volume yearly change
    • ASTVIYV: Van accepted volume yearly change
    • ASTVIYR: Reefer accepted volume yearly change

WHO IS INTERESTED?

This dataset is valuable for brokers, carriers, shippers, analysts, and transportation leaders who need to understand actual accepted freight demand in the truckload market. It is especially useful for teams monitoring demand trends, routing guide performance, capacity conditions, and equipment-specific market movement across van and reefer freight.

WHAT DOES IT TELL ME?

ASTVI helps show how much truckload volume is being accepted after accounting for tender rejections, giving users a clearer view of freight that is actually moving through accepted tenders. Understanding how accepted volumes relate to rejection rates helps reveal the level of demand at which carriers are either willing – or unable – to handle additional freight. By comparing total, van, and reefer accepted volumes across weekly, monthly, and yearly changes, users can better identify shifts in demand, seasonality, and capacity pressure across national, regional, and market-level geographies.
